Handling and Disposal of Chemical Sharps:
Chemical sharps are sharps that have been contaminated with hazardous chemicals.
This includes items such as:
- needles, wires, razor blades, scalpels, pipets, capillary tubes, syringes with attached needles, etc...
- sharps containing residual trace amounts of extremely hazardous chemicals, consult the list of extremely hazardous wastes
- glass slides containing fixed tissues or trace chemicals
- non-hazardous or unused sharps as they pose a safety concern to those handling regular trash.

We accept sharps for disposal only if they meet the following criteria: - Container Requirements:
- Plastic or other hard-sided, puncture-proof container that can be securely sealed.
- Sharps containers that are not red and do not display biohazard labels.
- Thick-walled plastic gallon containers are also acceptable, as long as they are clear or white.
- Labeling and Dating:
- The container must be labeled with a WASTe tag.
- Hazardous sharps- are labeled as "sharps" and also list any chemicals as trace and all associated hazard classes are marked.
- Non-hazardous sharps - are labeled as " Sharps (unused/non-haz)" and the hazard class "Toxic" is selected.
- Disposal Procedure:
- On the day you turn in your waste write the date of drop-off on the label's plastic sleeve.
- Bring your sharps to the pick-up location and day for your building.
| We will not accept sharps if for the following: - Containers with free standing liquids
- Containers with infectious material
- Cardboard containers
- Red sharp containers or those with the words/symbols associated with biohazardous materials.
- Trace chemo
- Non-hazardous broken glass waste these can be recycled
- Containers exceeding 15lbs
